Parent information

This anonymous 15 min survey aims to understand the views and experiences of parents/caregivers who seek information or guidance from school policies about bullying via school websites and/or school apps. This study is part of a research toward a PhD. The goal of this study is to identify communication gaps and inform future improvements in how schools connect with and support families by communicating school bullying protocols. This research has been approved by the Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington Human Ethics Committee (Application number: HE000309).

Consent statement

This research is anonymous. This means that nobody, including the researchers, will be aware of your name and identity. By completing the survey, you are giving consent for us to use your responses in this research. If you choose to leave partway during the survey, any answers you have provided will be included in analysis. Once you submit the survey, it will be impossible to retract your answer. Once you have begun the survey, you will have two weeks to complete your responses. If you have not completed the survey within two weeks, any answers you have provided will be submitted for analysis. Your answers will remain completely anonymous and unidentifiable. Please do not include any personal identifiable information in your answers to ensure they are anonymous. Any identifying information you may include in your answers will be removed during the analysis.

About the Survey

You will begin the survey on the next screen. It contains 3 sections (you can take part in one or more sections depending on your experiences). You do not need to complete every part, but any information you provide is incredibly valuable to help reduce the level of bullying currently in Aotearoa New Zealand schools.

By continuing, you are providing your consent to take part in the study. The full survey takes approximately 15 minutes. Some questions will ask you to select from a list, while others will ask you to describe your experience in your own words. Only Section 3 requires you to have had experience bullying behaviour involving your child.

What will the project produce?

The findings from this project will be reported in my thesis and will also be publish in journal articles and presented at academic conferences.

What is required of you

The survey is divided into three sections, with each section taking approximately 5 minutes to complete.

Section 1, you will be asked 8 questions about your demographic details so we can understand who is taking part in the survey. This will be followed by 13 questions exploring how you use and access your child’s school website and/or app.

Section 2, focuses on your awareness, use, and expectations of how schools communicate their bullying policies through digital platforms.

Section 3, asks about your personal experience with school communication following a bullying incident involving your child. Some of these questions may be emotionally sensitive, so please take your time, and remember your responses are anonymous. You’re responses will be saved so you are welcome to return to finish off the survey at any time before it closes.
